Take a private tour and discover Old Capital Mtskheta, Jvari, Gori, Uflistsikhe

Details:

Gori is located in the central part of inner Kartli and it is one of the oldest cities in Georgia. According to historical sources, it has been mentioned since the seventh century, but according to legend, when the Roman commander Pompeius invaded Georgia (65 BC), he came to Gori and besieged Goristsikhe, we can say that the settlement may have been here from antique time. Another proof about its oldness is cave city Uplistsikhe, it is located in the same district. Inner Kartli district introduces earliest layers which belong to the Bronze Age, we have artifacts from the archaeological excavations which are found nearby.
Gori is known to many foreigners as the birthplace of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, and we will visit the museum of Stalin and his original time house.

In this city, we will get by passing through the town of Mtskheta which is listed   UNESCO Cultural Heritage site. Mtskheta is located 20 kilometers far from Tbilisi, at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. Mtskheta was even the capital of Georgia before Tbilisi and it is now known as the Second Jerusalem why we believe so our guide will give you the detailed information.

Jvari Church
Translated as “The Monastery of the Cross”, Jvari is a 6th Century Monastery that is, coincidentally, in the shape of a cross. It is located on a mountaintop with a great view of the meeting between the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers as well as the entire city of Mtskheta. Jvari Monastery is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with other historic structures in Mtskheta. Jvari is the perfect place for those looking to travel back in time and enjoy the architecture of the Middle Ages. Note that the place is windy throughout the entire year, so be prepared.

Svetitskhoveli Cathedral
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral dates back to the 11th-century and has been a religious center of the country since its construction. Its complex includes the church, a bell tower, a gate, castles, and clerical residences. There are two legends connected to this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The notion that the seamless robe of the Christ is buried here is vastly believed by any Georgian. While according to another legend, King Giorgi ordered the amputation of the right hand of the architect who laid out the Svetitskhoveli, so as not to build something this beautiful ever again.

Stalin Museum
A Museum dedicated to the life and work of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Here you will find about 60,000 exhibits, including the house where Stalin was born and Stalin's own carriage. (If you do not wish to visit the museum you will be given free time for a walk in the streets of Gori.)

Uplistsiche Cave Town
Uplistsikhe, whose name translates to 'Fortress of the Lord', is an ancient rock-hewn town that played a significant role in Georgian history over a period of approximately 3,000 years. Archaeological excavations have revealed extraordinary artifacts dating from the Late Bronze Age all the way up to the late Middle Ages. The ancient cave city was built on a rocky bank of the Mtkvari River, approximately 15 kilometers east of the town of Gori. Between the 6th century BC and 11th century AD, Uplistsikhe was one of the most important political, religious, and cultural centers of pre-Christian Kartli, one of the predecessors of the Georgian state, and flourished until it was ravaged by the Mongols in the 13th century.
